Our summer EuroTrip started with a 24 hour layover in Washington D.C. We purchased the deal from a great sale fare from Iceland Air which departed from Washington D.C. had a brief stayover in Iceland (we could have extended this but decided to spend more time in other cities on our trip). We arrived in Washington D.C. early on Saturday morning, and the city was alive with preparation for numerous Memorial Day activities.

After dropping off our luggage at the hotel, we headed to the National Mall to stroll among the monuments and Smithsonian museums.

We stopped by Luke’s Lobster and tried their Lobster, Crab and Shrimp Rolls. The buttery bread and the delicious seafood hit the spot! We followed that up with a quick stop for Birthday Cake Truffles and Cereal Milk shakes at Milkbar.

From there it was just a short walk down New York Avenue before we came across 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, also known as the White House.

Because it was so hot outside we decide to escape the heat and take a quick nap at the hotel before going to get Tapas at Jaleo and then doing our own walking tour at dusk of the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, World War 2 Memorial and Reflecting Pool.
